The Koutoubia Gardens and the views of the minaret are free and accessible at any time. The mosque interior is an active place of worship and is reserved for Muslims — non-Muslim visitors can admire the architecture from the gardens and surrounding streets.
Best Times To Visit
Visit at sunrise for soft light and near-empty gardens, or come at sunset when the sandstone minaret turns amber and the gardens fill with a relaxed evening atmosphere. The midday sun can be intense, especially in summer — the gardens offer shade, but the light is harsh for photography.
How the day unfolds
Sunrise – 10:00 AM
The quietest time to visit. The gardens are peaceful, the light is soft, and the minaret photographs beautifully against the morning sky.
10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Tour groups pass through regularly and the midday sun is strong. The gardens still offer shade under the orange and olive trees, but photography is trickier with overhead light.
4:00 PM – Sunset
The best time for most visitors. The heat eases, the warm light brings out the colour of the sandstone, and the gardens come alive as locals gather for the evening.
